Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow

When we think of pokémon, we often assume amazing, 3D forms in our minds, with electrifying attacks and heroic deaths; however, nearly 11 years ago, with the release of Pokémon Red and Blue, these visions were visions of the future.

On February 27th, 1996, most stores in Japan were lined with two new games, two games that went on to sell over 60 million copies alone; these were Pocket Monsters: Red and Green.

However, on October 15th, 1996, Nintendo of Japan released a new game; Pocket Monsters: Blue, to replace the Green version. The dungeons in Blue version were a lot more 'completable' than the Red or Green versions. As predicted, Green was the one to go and Red and Blue were left.

US and UK release

Pocket Monsters: Red and Blue were then released in the US and UK on September 30th, 1998 and October 1st, 1999 respectivly. They were the same as the Japanese Red and Blue apart from the Red version had been tweaked to be like the Blue version: easier and more 'completable'. The name had also been changed from Pocket Monsters, to Pokémon.

Pokémon Yellow

By the time Pokémon Yellow hit the stores in Japan on September 12th, 1998, Pokémon had become a massive part of gaming (it is still second of the greatest games of all time, behind Mario) and had sold millions of copies. Yellow was a way to complete the series by following the storyline of the cartoon, with a Pikachu following you and Jessie and James (from Team Rocket) trying to steal Pikachu. Yellow was later released for US and UK fans on October 1st, 1999 and July 7th, 2000 respectivly. This game is also seen as one of the greatest games of all time, with Red and Blue.
