Pokémon Game Glitches

There are many glitches spread wide and far in the pokémon universe; some well known, some not so well known. Here at Drunkenmew.net, we will try to go into detail about most of the common ones we can think of, and some of the less common ones. As always, we will start in chronological order.

Pokémon Red / Blue
Missingno. / Rare Candy Cheat

Missingo. or M~ is probably the most common and well known glitch on Red and Blue (however the steps taken are a lor harder to do in Yellow so we shall not go into them). Missingo. is found at the right hand side of cinnibar island on the stretch of water which is adjecent to the land. However, the glitch only appears when you talk to the coffee man in Viridian City and answer 'no' to his question three times. After sitting through some old guy catch pokémon three times, fly immediately to Cinnibar Island and surf on the stretch of water mentioned earlier.

Ofcourse, that is not why Missingno. is popular though. He is popular for the fact that when you encounter this glitch from the above method, the item in the 6th position of your bag will multiply to around 130 of itself. This can be used for anything: masterballs, potions, but the most commonly cloned item is none other than the rare candy. Hence why this cheat is sometimes deemed the "Rare Candy Cheat."

The Invisible Computer

This one is less obvious than the Missingno. glitch, but still fun to try. What you must do is go to the hotl at the bottom of Celadon City and go directly to the right and two spaces below the plant. Make sure you are looking north, and Press A. The menu for a PC should come up, exactly like the ones in the pokémon centers. It has all the information a normal PC would, and all the boxes are operational.

Glitch City

Glitch City is possibly the hardest glitch to walkthrough. First of all you must have pokémon who can fly, or it will not work. To do this glitch, first you must go into the Safari Zone located in Fushia City, and exit straight after. When the man asks you whether you would like to leave, reply 'no' and therefore go back into the zone. Here, save your game and reboot it. Once you have done this, leave the Safari Zone again, and this time the owner should say his opening speech. Say no and leave the Safari Zone and fly to Cinnibar Island. Once there, surf on the side where you normally catch Missingno. and wait for the game to say: "PA! Ding-Dong!". Once this happens, you will be transported back to the Safari Zone entrance in which you will once again 'leave' the Safari Zone. However, this time, you will be in what is known as Glitch City...

Getting back to Agatha from Lance

Stand in front of the right door as soon as you enter Lance's chamber. Move to the right while pressing Start, and save the game. Reboot the game. You should be facing right; There is a glitch in R/B/Y that allows you to Surf on the base of the statues, so press Start and use Surf. Instead of going to the right, though, you should go down. Continue going down, and you will be in the hallway that connects to Agatha's room.

Pokémon Gold / Silver
Cloning Cheat

The cloning cheat is fairly simple to do however, it requires immaculate timing. First, go to any PC, save infront of it, and deposit a pokémon in a box that is not Box 1 (or the first box), I usually, out of habit, choose Box 9. Once the pokémon is deposited, switch the box. Switching the box should prompt the save screen and when it says "Saving... Don not turn off the power!" (or something like that), do exactly the opposite. Reboot your game. When you return, you should be in the position you were in when you saved infront of the PC earlier. The pokémon you deposited will be in your party, and will also be in the box you deposited into. It will be an exact replica, so if you want to clone items as well, attach them to a pokémon to be cloned.

Change Character's Colour (Crystal only)

On Crystal, start a new game and select either a boy or a girl. When you get to the game, save it and switch it off. Once the game has rebooted, start a new game but make sure you choose the opposite gender to what you chose the first time (so if you were a girl, choose the boy and vice-versa). Save your game again, but this time, just like the cloning cheat, switch it off when it tells you not to... ironic... When you reboot and continue your game, your character should be the colour of the other gender.

Giratina

After completing the National Dex, a new lake with the Turnback Cave by it. It is positioned just east of Route 214. In it is a maze like area with pointers telling you where to go. After finding your way through, you should find Giratina. This is the 3rd Legendary Dragon to go with Dialga and Palkia. Once again you can only battle it here and it is at Lv. 70. With a variety of resistences due to both of its types, you best be prepared

Cresselia

After obtaining the National Dex, when you talk to the family in the house above the Sailor by the boat in Canalave Town, you will be told of Fullmoon Island. Talk to the Sailor and he will take you there. The only thing on this island is Cresselia. Talk to it and it will fly off. Like Mespirit, it's current location will display on your Pokétch so you will have to trap it through that. It is Lv. 50 so be prepared

Phione & Manaphy

Manaphy, the Prince of the Sea, is obtained via a Special Event that was available for Pokémon Ranger. You can transfer Manaphy over to your game. The Egg it is in hatches after a while into a Lv. 1 Manaphy. However this Manaphy is able to breed and when you breed it, it will hatch into the Psuedo-Manaphy; Phione. A Weaker version of Manaphy

Darkrai

Once you obtain the item Membership Pass at the event, Go to Canalave City and you will be able to access the Motel which has previously been locked. Go there for a night's sleep and you will be disturbed by Darkrai in your sleep. When you wake up, a Diary will be there which contains Darkrai's location. Go to the Sailor at the bottom of the city and he will take you there. When you get to the island, you can go up and battle Darkrai. It is at Lv. 40

Shaymin

After you go to the event that is giving away Shaymin, you will receive the item called: Oak's Letter. With this item in your bag, go to the White Rock in Route 224. You will notice that the Route has been extended. Now as an extra long route, the Flower Elysium, all the way to the top right of the map, you must travel it all the way. At the end, in a flower filled field, you will find Shaymin awaiting you. It is at Lv. 30

Arceus

Once you go to the event, you will receive the item called: Heaven's Pipe. With this item in your bag, go to the Spear Pillar in Mt. Coronet where you battled Dialga or Palkia. Go to the symbol between the pillars and use the Heaven's Pipe. Some stairs will appear that will go up to the Beginning Dimension. Here Arceus resides. Be warned as it is the highest level Wild Pokémon at Lv. 80 so be prepared
